Biomarker Analytical & Clinical Hemodynamics Cores

Formerly the Hypertension Core Laboratory

 

Overview of Services 

 

The Biomarker Analytical Core (BAC) at Wake Forest School of Medicine is a CLIA-certified laboratory that performs clinical and research assays.  It serves as a reference laboratory for Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC, as well as a central laboratory for Hypertension and Vascular Research.  The laboratory has participated in NIH, FDA, and pharmaceutical company-sponsored studies and has experience with multi-center projects.  K. Bridget Brosnihan, Ph.D. is certified as a high complexity assay laboratory director.  
The BAC provides analytical support for individual projects and for program project grants within the institution, as well as for national and international investigators.

The Clinical Hemodynamics Core (CHC) ...

The majority of the analytes are measured by radioimmunoassay (RIA), enzyme immunoassay (EIA), and enzymatic assays.  By having all the samples analyzed by staff with long-term experience, in a single laboratory equipped with appropriate instrumentation, data can be obtained in a more uniform manner, with the strictest possible quality control and minimal reagent expense.
The BAC is nationally and internationally recognized as an expert in measurement of components of the renin-angiotensin system, and provides biomarkers of cardiovascular, inflammatory, and aging-related and metabolic diseases.
